Davidson Reid

Founder. Owner. Partner

Davidson Reid began his career in 1987 performing with the Joffrey Ballet in New York City. While in New York Davidson began to study, and teach Pilates with many of the nation’s most prestigious Pilates instructors and studios. This is where his deep understanding of human anatomy and movement first began to take shape. After living and working in South Africa and Europe, primarily as a dancer, he returned to New York City and began teaching Pilates full-time.

As a Power Pilates, senior instructor, he worked with a wide range of clients from top models and Broadway stars to the elderly and in-firmed. With this depth of experience and practical knowledge, Davidson moved back to Atlanta in 2001 and began teaching Pilates at a local studio. In 2003 he was made the first Senior Teacher Trainer for Power Pilates and since then has trained and certified hundreds of highly educated and knowledgeable Pilates instructors in Atlanta, the U.S. and internationally.  In 2004 Davidson purchased that studio and over the next 12 years grew it into Atlanta’s premier Pilates studio. By providing world-class instruction to clients and teachers alike he, along with help from the rest of his team, was instrumental in the creation of the thriving Pilates culture in Atlanta today.

Around 2008 Davidson discovered Redcord Suspension Exercise and was immediately drawn to how simple and effective a tool it is. After introducing it to Atlanta and many months of work and experimentation Redcord became a seamless and imperative part of his work. Today, Davidson is a Redcord educator and Redcord can be found at Pilates studios throughout Atlanta as well as many gyms and physical therapy practices.

In 2010 Davidson met and began to study with Thomas Myers, a widely respected anatomist and considered by many to be the world’s leading expert on the manual bodywork technique known as Structural Integration. More commonly known as Rolfing, Structural Integration or S.I. was the tool that Davidson had been missing during his entire career. With Mr. Myers urging Davidson enrolled at Kinesis Myofascial Integration (KMI), Mr. Meyers school of Structural integration. After years of study including cadaver dissections and several months of immersion at Mr. Meyer’s home and school in Walpole, Maine Davidson became a board-certified Structural Integrator and went back to work incorporating this profoundly effective tool into his practice.

In 2016 Davidson sold his Pilates studio and proudly opened Physical Culture in Brookhaven first and then in 2019 moved Physical Culture to Chamblee. This change allows him the time and freedom to devote more of himself to his clients and the continued refinement of the use of Pilates, Redcord and S.I. as an integrated system for the attainment and maintenance of an efficient and uniformly developed physical structure.
